How do we rate wines? First we want to be fair to the wineries because this is their business and how they make a living. We're not here to criticize their product. Every wine has its purpose in the market. We just want to find the ones that stand out to us so you can enjoy them.

Most of the wines we will review are ones available in the Denver market. We will also provide reviews on wines that you can only get direct from wineries. Recently a new law passed allowing winerys' to ship to Colorado with the proper permit. This is great for the consumer because as you know some wines just don’t make it out of the wineries front door. And let me tell you now there are a lot of great wines to be found this way.

So after a wine is tasted it is given a score of between 50 and 100 points. Sure, the rating system starts at 0, but if it’s less than 50 why tell you about it? Again, it’s not our objective to say negative things about wines.

All wines we review are either submitted by wineries or are purchased by denverwineguy.com for review. In addition, we may attend tastings organized by local wine distributors and/or local merchants. The important thing to remember is that our reviews are objective. Our mission is to serve you, the wine consumer.

The point system

96-100: We consider these wines extraordinary. Wines with these marks are not found very often. This wine will be very complex; fabulous. It will be an experience to remember – in your mouth.

90-95: Wine with this rating is considered outstanding with a lot of character and depth. These wines are easier to find but are still extremely memorable – trust me.

80-89: These wines are above average and typically more affordable bottles. Complexity is usually lacking in these bottles, but to get this rating we are looking for good balance in the mouth and beautiful aromas on the nose.

70-79: This rating describes average wines bought to drink as cocktails – “let’s not analyze it” wines.

50-69: Chances are these will be wines that might be great for a great big party or maybe to make spritzers from. We're thinking there may not be too many of these in this range in the review section.

*Note: If any bottle is tainted in any way we will obtain another bottle to taste and rate fairly. Now let's all enjoy some fine wine….yahoooo!!!   I Love This Part.

Cheers
